The analysis of the main trends, challenges and threats to the development of civilization in the XXI century and related new strategic objectives of the education system. The structure of this complex problem is given and its most important humanitarian components are highlighted. The special importance of the information direction of the society development is noted, the result of which will be the formation of a new type of civilization – information civilization. Therefore, the study of the basic laws of the formation of this civilization in the education system is an urgent task of the new education system. Another task is the timely training of the elite and leaders of the new generation, the formation of their scientific Outlook and responsibility to society.
